Dodge Ram RHO vs TRX: Which 2027 Ram Super Truck Should You Buy?

Sports Car One Staff

October 31, 2026

Ram now sells two desert-runner pickups that look almost identical and sit $25,000 apart. The 2027 RHO starts at $77,790 with a 540-hp twin-turbo six, and the reborn TRX SRT costs $102,790 with a 777-hp supercharged V8. If you’ve been searching for a Dodge Ram RHO, here’s our verdict: buy the RHO if this is your only truck, and buy the TRX only if it’s a toy you’ll drive on weekends.

Quick answer: The 2027 Ram 1500 RHO costs $74,995 before destination and makes 540 hp; the TRX SRT costs $99,995 and makes 777 hp. The TRX hits 60 mph 1.1 seconds sooner, but the RHO tows and hauls more, rates 15 mpg combined against 12 and leaves $25,000 for options.

Dodge Ram RHO vs TRX: how do the specs compare?

Ram trucks used to wear Dodge badges, so plenty of shoppers still type Dodge Ram, but both trucks are sold today as the Ram 1500 RHO and Ram 1500 TRX SRT. They share a Crew Cab body, a 5-foot-7-inch bed, 35-inch tires and 11.8 inches of ground clearance. The engine is the real split.

Ram’s 2027 RHO FAQ lists 8,370 pounds of towing and 1,530 pounds of payload. Autoblog’s October 8 review printed 8,330 pounds for towing; we’ve used Ram’s figure. Ram’s FAQ doesn’t publish an RHO price, so the $74,995 base comes from Autoblog and matches the $77,790 figure dealers have posted with destination.

Is the TRX 1.1 seconds quicker in the real world?

Ram claims 3.5 seconds to 60 mph for the TRX. Carscoops tested trucks at Ram’s July launch in near triple-digit heat and saw runs in the mid-four-second range, with a best of 4.31 seconds with rollout. Heat soak hurts a supercharged engine because hotter intake air is less dense, so expect cooler days to land closer to Ram’s number.

The same test turned up a check engine light after repeated launch-control runs, which a Ram engineer put down to an overheated brake booster. Ram reset it and the truck went back out. It’s a small note, but it tells you what the TRX is built for: short, hard bursts of speed rather than steady daily miles.

Is the Ram TRX not meant for daily use?

Ram’s own boss says so. “If you want to drive this every single day as your only truck, the RHO is a way better option,” Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis told The Drive on January 13, 2026. He added that if price isn’t an object and the truck is for occasional fun, “Of course, you want the TRX.”

Fuel is where that plays out. Both trucks have a 33-gallon tank. Ram requires premium in the RHO, and the EPA rated the last TRX on premium too. At 15,000 miles a year the TRX burns about 1,250 gallons against the RHO’s 1,000. Even priced at AAA’s $4.22 national average for regular on October 29, that’s $1,055 a year more for the TRX, and premium costs more than regular.

Range is the other daily cost. A full tank at the combined rating takes the RHO about 495 miles and the TRX about 396. On a highway road trip, using each truck’s highway rating, that becomes roughly 528 miles against 462. One fewer fuel stop a day adds up on a long tow.

What does the extra $25,000 buy on the TRX?

More than an engine. Ram’s June 22 order release lists heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, reclining heated and ventilated rear seats, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon system, a 14.5-inch screen, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera and Hands-Free Active Drive Assist as TRX standard equipment.

On the RHO, Ram lists much of that as available rather than standard. Here’s the buyer trap: price an RHO with the luxury gear and the gap narrows. For 2026, the RHO Level 1 package that added ventilated seats, the Harman Kardon audio, the head-up display and the 360-degree camera cost $9,995, ClubAlfa reported in July 2025. Check the 2027 order guide, because package names and contents have changed.

RHO vs TRX vs Ford Raptor: which is the better value?

Ford sells the obvious rivals, the F-150 Raptor and Raptor R. Kelley Blue Book lists them at $81,800 and $113,725, and the price-per-horsepower view favors Ram at both levels.

TruckPowerPricePrice per hpEPA combined
Ram 1500 RHO540 hp$77,790$14415 mpg

Ford F-150 Raptor R720 hp$113,725$15812 mpg

The RHO undercuts the standard Raptor by $4,010 while making 90 more horsepower, and it out-tows the Raptor’s 8,200-pound rating. The TRX beats the Raptor R by 57 hp and $10,935. Ford’s Raptor still wins on fuel economy by 1 mpg, and Ram’s numbers come from Ram, not an independent test.

Which should you buy?

Buy the RHO if it’s your only pickup or it tows a camper. You get 70% of the TRX’s horsepower, more payload and towing, longer range and $25,000 to spend on options or a trailer. If you’re weighing a heavy-duty diesel instead, read our 6.7 Cummins guide.

Buy the TRX if it’s a second vehicle and the sound of a supercharged V8 matters to you. Just budget for fuel and insurance on a near-$103,000 truck. If you’re cross-shopping GM, read up on the GM 6.2L V8 recall and Silverado engine problems before you compare. Prices can change during the model year, so confirm them before you order.

RHO vs TRX questions buyers are asking

Is the Ram RHO faster than the TRX?

No. Ram quotes 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds for the 777-hp 2027 TRX SRT and 4.6 seconds for the 540-hp RHO, and it lists a 13.1-second quarter mile for the RHO. Both trucks are limited to 118 mph, so on the open highway neither one is faster at the top end.

Is the Ram TRX good for daily driving?

It can be, since Carscoops called it civilized on the highway, but Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis told The Drive in January 2026 that the RHO is a better choice as an only truck. The TRX is rated at 12 mpg combined versus 15 for the RHO, and it costs $25,000 more.

How much does a 2027 Ram RHO cost?

The 2027 Ram 1500 RHO starts at $74,995 before Ram’s $2,795 destination charge, or $77,790, according to Autoblog’s October 2026 review. That’s $25,000 less than the $102,790 TRX SRT. ClubAlfa noted in 2025 that popular options can push an RHO past $80,000.

For most buyers the Dodge Ram RHO is the smarter truck, and the numbers show it plainly: it tows 270 pounds more and carries 310 pounds more payload than the TRX, for $25,000 less.
