2027 Kia Sorento PHEV Price Jumps $5,600 as Kia Cuts the EX Trim

October 20, 2026

The cheapest plug-in Kia Sorento you can buy for 2027 costs $55,385 with destination, $5,600 more than last year’s entry point. Kia America announced the 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV price on Oct. 19, 2026, and the headline number hides a simple change: the EX trim is gone, and the loaded X-Line SX-Prestige AWD is the only version left. Shopping on price? This is a worse deal. Wanted the top trim anyway? Almost nothing changed.

Quick answer: The 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV starts at $53,890 before a $1,495 destination charge, or $55,385 delivered. It comes only as the X-Line SX-Prestige AWD with a standard head-up display. Kia’s spec sheet lists 268 combined horsepower and 31 miles of electric range. The cheaper EX trim has been discontinued.

What does the 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV price get you?

Kia’s official 2027 Sorento PHEV pricing release lists one configuration at $53,890 MSRP. New for 2027, the head-up display becomes standard, the front seatbacks get X-Line embossing, and the dash and doors pick up machined wood inlays. Pale Gray replaces Steel Gray on the color chart.

Car and Driver’s Oct. 19 report lists standard kit including a 360-degree camera, Highway Driving Assist 2, leather seating, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof. A combined Level 1 and Level 2 charging cable is standard.

Why did the starting price jump $5,600?

Trim mix explains it. The 2026 Sorento PHEV EX started at $49,785 including destination, according to Car and Driver. The same outlet reports the surviving X-Line SX-Prestige costs only $400 more than its 2026 equivalent.

For a like-for-like buyer, the increase is $400. What’s gone is the cheaper way in. Kia hasn’t said why it dropped the EX. We raised a similar trim-ladder question with the 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk’s $7,500 upgrade.

Sorento PHEV range, power and towing in real use

Kia’s 2027 Sorento PHEV specifications list a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 177.5 hp, paired with a 91-hp electric motor, for 268 hp and 270 lb-ft combined. The battery holds 14 kWh. Kia quotes 31 miles of electric range, 74 MPGe and 33 mpg when the engine runs on its own.

Car and Driver cites 261 hp and 30 miles and notes the EPA hasn’t published 2027 estimates. We’re going with Kia’s own sheet, but treat the range as provisional.

The 31-mile figure only pays off if you plug in. If your daily round trip stays under about 30 miles and you charge every night, most weekday driving can run on electricity. Skip charging and you’ve paid a plug-in premium for a 33 mpg hybrid. The included Level 2 cable lets you use a 240-volt outlet without buying a wall charger, though you still need that outlet in your garage.

One spec to check before you sign. Kia’s sheet lists 1,654 lbs of unbraked towing and shows no braked figure. If you pull a camper or boat, get the braked rating in writing from your dealer.

Is it still worth it against the Mazda CX-90 PHEV and Outlander PHEV?

Mazda’s CX-90 PHEV page lists the Preferred trim at $50,695 plus a $1,645 destination charge, or $52,340 delivered. That’s $3,045 less than the Sorento PHEV, and Mazda quotes 323 hp against Kia’s 268. Mazda’s site still shows the 2026 model, so its 2027 pricing could move.

Mitsubishi’s website lists the 2026 Outlander PHEV from $43,245 before destination, $10,645 under the Sorento’s MSRP. It’s the closest plug-in family SUV to the old EX’s price point, with less equipment.

The Sorento PHEV is now a luxury-equipment play. You pay $53,890 for a head-up display, ventilated seats and a panoramic roof you can’t delete. If you’d have ticked those boxes anyway, a $400 year-over-year change is fair. If you wouldn’t, the Mazda or the Mitsubishi gets you a plug for less.

What should EX shoppers do now?

You have two moves. Ask dealers about leftover 2026 EX models, or look at the regular Sorento Hybrid, which skips the plug and the plug-in premium. Car and Driver puts gas and hybrid Sorento pricing between $34,085 and $49,485. Our look at Toyota’s hybrid SUV lineup offers another benchmark.

Kia’s fully electric side has its own timing questions, as our report on the delayed 2026 Kia EV9 GT covered. And if leasing an EV makes more sense than financing a plug-in, compare current Hyundai Ioniq 6 lease deals before you commit.

Prices here are Kia’s MSRPs as of Oct. 19, 2026 and exclude taxes and dealer fees. EPA figures for the 2027 model are still pending.

The 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV price shows who Kia is building it for now: buyers ready to spend $55,385 delivered. Everyone else just lost the $49,785 way in.

2027 Kia Sorento PHEV questions answered

How much is the 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV?

The 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV has an MSRP of $53,890, plus a $1,495 destination charge, for $55,385 before taxes and dealer fees. It’s sold only as the X-Line SX-Prestige AWD. That’s $5,600 more than the 2026 entry price, because Kia dropped the EX trim that started at $49,785 with destination.

What is the electric range of the Kia Sorento PHEV?

Kia’s 2027 specification sheet lists 31 miles of all-electric range from a 14 kWh battery, plus 74 MPGe and 33 mpg in hybrid mode. The EPA hasn’t published final 2027 estimates yet, and Car and Driver cites 30 miles, so treat the number as provisional until the window sticker is official.

Is the Kia Sorento PHEV worth it?

It depends on how often you can plug in and whether you want top-trim features. Daily charging lets short commutes run on electricity. If you’d skip the head-up display, ventilated seats and panoramic roof, the Mazda CX-90 PHEV costs $3,045 less delivered and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV starts far lower.
